Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
In my work with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (sacred work, indeed), I often refer to Complex PTSD - "...most often associated with extended periods of physical and/or sexual abuse in childhood [as well as] ongoing verbal and emotional abuse." (Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving. Pete Walker)
Many survivors do not know they are living with this condition. And, in fact, the medical profession is only just starting to catch on to the connection between psychic wounding and physical illnesses as well as myriad other mental health diagnoses. To my mind, asking about early abusive experiences and trauma should be included in any basic medical intake session.

The good news is that complex PTSD can be healed. The first step in that healing is awareness of the impact of the wounding.
