Finally, the medical world is taking notice of women's health and, in particular, menopause. The more I've researched, the more I've learned that menopause, a state of enormous hormonal change for women, is responsible for literally dozens of problematic symptoms. It's not just about hot flashes and night sweats. The sudden drop in hormones also takes its toll on our mental health. Sudden onset or worsening of existing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidality and ADHD can now be linked to menopause.
If you are a woman in her mid-thirties and older and find yourself experiencing a sudden onset of mental health symptoms, it is recommended that you visit your doctor for a measure of hormone levels. Currently, the majority of women in peri-, post-, and menopause are being prescribed anti-depressants when what might actually be needed is a hormone boost.
